Dream house, dream location –
This
10-acre, 7-year-old home is in rolling hills, just north
of Sioux City, Iowa, a middle-sized town of about 85,000
with a metropolitan population of just over 100,000 friendly
people. Schools are great, a nice, safe town to raise children.
Sioux City supports its own symphony, has a casino, nice
parks, nature center. Colleges and universities include
Briar Cliff College, Morningside College, Saint Lukes College
of Nursing and Health Sciences. Historic sites and museums
include Mid America Air Museum, Sergeant Floyd Monument,
Sioux City Art Center, Sioux City Public Museum, Siouxland
Historical Railroad Museum, Sergeant Floyd Riverboat Museum,
Milwaukee Railroad Roundhouse Historic Site.
Our home is located just 10 minutes from the second largest
HyVee grocery store in a newly remodeled shopping area with
Minerva’s Restaurant for great dining.
This is a 7 year-old LiteForm home. Liteform
is an all concrete and insulation building system –
very sturdy, very warm, low utility costs. The house has a
white stucco exterior and windows and doors, and soffets are
aluminium, which means no maintenance. No maintenance decking
outside too. Shingles carry an 80-year warranty. Lots of fruit
trees and ornamental shrubbery and a great garden area –
beautiful flower beds! Horse Lake can be seen from our home.
It is a clean, spring and rain fed lake with bass, blue gill
and sunfish. Paddleboat comes with the house. We live in Plymouth
county and taxes are very low, only a little over $3,000 a
year.
Inside, the home has a contemporary feel,
lots of large windows, fantastic views from all sides, 9 feet
ceiling height. Clean lines and open areas make this 3,500
sq feet home feel open and airy. High-grade, light maple laminate
flooring never requires any stripping or refinishing and take
a beating with ease. Light wood kitchen cabinets and lots
of built-ins make this too good to be true. The large kitchen
is a dream, with lots of storage, 16 drawers and then cabinets
in addition. High-end appliances, FisherPaekel dishwasher,
Dacor electric oven, Dacor six-burner gas stove, warming drawer,
GE Monogram matches cabinetry. Great kitchen flow with little
extras to make the cook’s life easier. Partially covered
deck right outside the kitchen and living room for outdoor
dining all warm-weather long.
There is a guest bedroom upstairs, right off
the entry, with a full bathroom – great for inlaws,
which is what we built it for. Completely finished large two-car
garage. Downstairs there are two bedrooms with 9 feet ceilings
and large windows; an office, laundry, utility room, master
bedroom (with bath) and another full bathroom. Outside, under
the deck, in front of master bedroom is a hottub, somewhat
secluded by currant bushes.
This is a great house, now I’m wondering
how crazy we are to sell it. But… we have grown kids
and would like to build again, something smaller, just for
the two of us.
